Independent Living Specialist Deaf Services - ASL Required
Center for Independent Living in Central Florida Inc. is seeking a dynamic Independent Living/Community Specialist to provide independent living skills training, assistive technology demonstrations and training, and community outreach to individuals who are Deaf.
This individual must be fully fluent in American Sign Language (ASL.)
This role is a multi-functional one, requiring excellent interpersonal and communication skills, working knowledge of social programs and community- based services, excellent research and outreach skills, experience in meeting program goals and deliverables, as well as experience in supporting people who are Deaf in achieving their self-determined goals. Individuals with proven experience in providing life skills training, teaching, and coaching of individuals with disabilities preferred.
The hours of employment will generally be Monday through Friday and candidates must have reliable transportation.
Candidate must pass a drug test and Level 2 background screening. Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field; or an associate degree with two years’ experience working with youth or adults with disabilities.
- Must be fully fluent in American Sign Language (ASL.)
- Must possess excellent time management, organizational and communication skills.
- Proven ability to make and maintain good working relationships with a variety of people and groups.
- High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative.
- Must be highly proficient in the use of MS Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Must have reliable transportation.
